17th edition of the Verviers Jazz Festival

On August 23, 2023, the legendary Théâtre du Peigné, nestled in the heart of Verviers, Belgium, resonated with the sounds of jazz. For the 17th edition of the Verviers Jazz Festival, the spotlight was on the piano.

The day began with a bang at 2:00 PM with a vibrant tribute to Django Reinhardt, the icon of Gypsy jazz. The honor of this tribute was entrusted to the group The Swing Cats, who, with passion and mastery, revisited the great standards of this unique style, much to the delight of the aficionados in attendance.

But what would jazz be without a sweet treat to accompany its enchanting melodies? At 4:00 PM, festival-goers had the pleasure of savoring creations by the famous Belgian chocolatier Jean-Philippe Darcis. A delight for the taste buds, especially since this tasting was accompanied by the melodies of The Jazz Lovers group, true to their name, who shared their love for classic jazz.

The evening reached its peak at 6:00 PM with a performance by Belgian pianist David Linx. Recognized on the international stage, David Linx captured the hearts of the audience. With a varied repertoire ranging from classic jazz to Gypsy and fusion, each note was a journey.

This festival, organized by the Jazz à Verviers association, is not just a musical event. It is a true cultural celebration that brings together thousands of visitors every year. The renovated Théâtre du Peigné in 2017 once again proved to be a prominent jazz venue in Belgium.

For those who didn't have the chance to attend, see you next year for another equally promising edition. Jazz still has a bright future in Verviers.
